ICT Operations Engineer Lead - Sellafield Ltd

Job Description

The ICT Operations Engineer Lead is responsible for leading and managing an ICT Operations Engineer team(s), ensuring, and implementing best practices to ensure efficiency and reliability in our IT systems. The lead engineer will oversee the daily operations of our ICT systems, manage a team of engineers, and work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that our technology infrastructure supports the organisation’s goals. This includes leading the planning of upgrades, commissioning and decommissioning of existing It infrastructure, the generation of roadmaps to inform investment planning and the release into service, problem, change, configuration, and modification management.

Principal Accountabilities

• Responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of network and system infrastructures, providing technical guidance and support to your team while addressing any operational issues that arise.
• Develop and maintain operation policies, procedures, and documentation to streamline processes and drive efficiency.
• Establish and maintain a cadence of Technical Service Delivery Pillar Reviews ensuring continuous service improvement and alignment with prioritised deliverables.
• Provide expert advice to the team to support reviews of technical documentation, specifically Outline solution design (OSD), High Level Design (HLD), Technical Studies, Feasibility Studies, & Service Definition Documents.
• Support ISO/ICT Service Delivery Management and SACM teams for License Management to ensure Sellafield are on the optimum license agreements and accurate asset baselines with ICT Service providers.
• Ensure effective product roadmap management in collaborations with vendors and suppliers to maintain software lifecycle alignment Act as the lead interface between System Owners, ISO/ICT, and the supply chain fostering collaboration and effective communication.
• Represent technical operations of their assigned Service Delivery pillar for engaging external suppliers inc. regarding site licence conditions, regulation, or legislation, with the SDMs.
• Assist the Solution Integration team with technical reviews of Low-Level Designs (LLDs).
• Review and ensure alignment of the Technology Principles and Standards (TPAS) with the Strategy to ensure compliance with standards, thus avoiding risk, unnecessary complexity, and unnecessary cost to the business.
• Reporting and Analysis – design and assure reports/analysis tracking Key Performance Indicators across the technical operations of their assigned Service Delivery pillar, including liaison with the IT Reporting & Measurement team, utilising ITSM and other software tools.
• Approve financial requests from Business Support for Application license & Support renewals and Sellafield CDR Monthly Valuation Certificates

Authorities & Dimensions

• Act as delegated approval for licensing & Maintenance Support renewals.
• Act as delegated approval for Minor Works Requests.
• Act as delegated intelligent customer when engaging external suppliers including regarding site licence conditions, regulation, or legislation for pillar technical operations.
• Review and assure business requests and submit through correct channels for approval.
• Act as a deputy for the pillar lead, particularly on technical operations discussions.
• Line Management of 1 role: ICT Operations Engineer B4ZC – B3ZB Lower.
• Accountable for up to 10-12 resources.
• Matrix Management of ICT Ops Engineer resource, ensure standards, expectations and stakeholder management are standardised within service delivery given the ICT Ops Engineers operate within different pillars.
• Provide coaching for the team for development purposes, technical guidance or to provide support for any escalations or disputes.
• Responsible for driving continuous service improvement activities across allocated services.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of bachelor’s degree in relevant technical area and relevant industry experience.
• Detailed knowledge of relevant application technical areas and processes.
• Good communication skills with the ability to advise others using technical knowledge. • Good analytical skills with the ability to spot trends and patterns.
• Computer literate, including a good working knowledge of relevant computer software.
• Minimum of 5 years team leadership experience within a challenging technical and business environment.
• Project Management skills.

Desirable Skills

• ITIL v3 foundation desirable.
• TOGAF foundation desirable.
